Top 10 Tech Myths

TOP 10 TECH MYTHS BUSTED

Today's technology is evolving so fast that what we believed was true yesterday may have no relevance today. Still, we often hold on to such outdated false believes which must be exposed.
So here is a list of what I believe are the top 10 myths:

1.More signal bars in phone means more signal internet speed

Although the number of bars on your phone may show your proximity to the cellular tower it has nothing to do with your internet speed.
Different cell phone manufacturers have different standards for the display of bars.
You may get more speed with a single bar and your friend may struggle to load a basic HTML page with his phone showing full bars.
the pic below shows 2 phones at the same place with different number of bars.

2.Bigger file size does not mean better quality

Well, this may be true most of the times but I am sure that you may have downloaded a movie (in GBs)from the net and got frustrated at its quality, wondering why a 120 minutes video of 4 GB has such a poor resolution. Well this is all because of the encoding. The file size largely depends on the type of encoding It has and not just on the resolution, this is the reason you sometimes you find a pic of fewer megabits much better than another pic.
300KB

200KB

3.Charging your phone overnight causes the battery to wear out fast

Yes, this was true for phones that were manufactured in the early 2000s but all the modern mobile devices cut off the power supply once they are fully charged, so even if you put your phone to charge the whole night, it stops receiving charging once it is fully charged.
Next time if you need some juice, just put your phone to charge and take a nap peacefully

4.Refreshing your desktop does nothing

We all have got into this useless but kinda satisfying habit of refreshing the desktop continuously and hope that it will make our PCs faster. Instead, all that it does is reloads the icons and folders on the desktop.so next time you refresh your pc after you boot up just remember this.

5.Facebook and WhatsApp are not free

Yes, although you may believe that Facebook and other social media sites are free but the truth is that these sites take your personal information as their charge and use this information to show you relevant ads, this is how they earn money. It is king a scary to know how much these companies know about you.

6.Put phones in aeroplane mode while on an aeroplane..really!!!

The navigation system of aeroplanes and your mobile phone work on a totally different spectrum, there is absolutely no way that your phone can interfere with the planes navigation system leading to a plane crash. If this would have been the case they would have collected your phones once you enter the flight.
The more logical reason is that this is done to avoid noise in the flight.

7.More megapixels means a better image

The image quality of your phone depends on a lot of factors like how good is your sensor, how big is the aperture, focal length, your phone's sensor and many more factors. Well having more megapixels will actually ensure that when you crop into your photo, it will not get pixilated.

8.USB Type C means fast charging

Well, type c may supply more power and is considered the future but this does not ensure fast charging. Fast charging can also be made available with any other type of connector, all it takes is a fast charging adaptor and a supporting handset.

9.More cores means faster processing

Most of the times an iPhone with dual core beats an android with 8 cores, the performance of your phone largely depends on the OS optimization and the architecture of your chip, so now that you know that the number of cores does not mean more speed. Be careful when you buy your next phone.

10.Do not use third-party charger

This is maybe the biggest myth we generally hear, well you will be happy to hear that this is totally not true. Just make sure that the third party charger has the same output voltage and current as the charger you got with your phone.

These were only a few of the myths that are being followed by many of us, So next time you see someone believe in any of these myths, just let them know that they can let that go.

Bonus: do not use phones at petrol pumps

This again is a really funny situation, just imagine if this were to be true then petrol pumps would never accept payments through Paytm, well you can not use paytm with a switched off phone, can you?
