Android Devices affected by Malware!
Check Point Stated: Judy Malware Affected Up to 36.5 Million Android Users via Google Play
Check point researchers says "Some of the apps we discovered resided on Google Play for several years, but all were recently updated. It is unclear how long the malicious code existed inside the apps, hence the actual spread of the malware remains unknown"The connection between the two campaigns remains unclear, and it is possible that one borrowed code from the other, knowingly or unknowingly"
The researchers at Check point also said that the auto-clicking adware dubbed as Judy was found on 41 apps developed by a Korean company named as Kiniwini that is registered on Google play as ENISTUDIO CORP.Researchers claims that Judy malware affected 8.5 million to 36.5 million Android devices as the malicious apps saw downloads between 4.5 million to 18.5 million. Obviously,Google removed the malicious apps from the Google Play store after Check Point notified it about the threat.
Check point also added that the oldest app in the other campaign from other developers were last updated in April 2016 i.e the "malicious code hid for a long time on the Play store undetected."
Google needs to make it's Apps screening tests more effective and strict as such cases are increasing in numbers day by day And people should also check if the Apps that he is downloading comes from a trusted/reputed source, also just to make sure a user should always read the reviews given to the app before blindly downloading it on their device.
Obviously in a population of 7.2 billion everyone can't be good!
So stay safe and protect your user privacy in the fragile Digital age!
